Final Takeoff – Why Choose the Alpina 4 GT Ozone
Every time you clip in, you’re making a choice about the kind of flight you’ll have. With the Alpina 4 GT Ozone, that choice leads to smoother transitions, stronger climbs, and an undeniable edge in covering distance. It’s the paraglider that encourages you to think bigger, fly longer, and experience more of what the sky has to offer.
Unmatched Performance in Every Flight Phase
The Alpina 4 GT Ozone is built for pilots who expect their wing to deliver consistently high performance across all phases of flight—launch, climb, glide, transition, and landing. Every design element has been tuned to extract maximum efficiency from every thermal and every gust, without sacrificing the smooth, predictable handling that Ozone is known for.
Launch Performance – Smooth, Predictable, and Controlled
Taking off is the first test of a paraglider’s refinement, and the Alpina 4 GT Ozone passes with flying colors.
Its lightweight build allows the wing to inflate effortlessly in light breezes, while the Shark Nose leading edge maintains stability even during aggressive forward launches. Pilots will notice how the canopy rises evenly without overshooting, giving them precise control in variable terrain or tight takeoff zones.
Climb Efficiency – Rise Faster, Stay Higher
Once airborne, the Alpina 4 GT Ozone transforms every hint of lift into altitude gain. The improved arc profile and reduced drag line layout work together to center thermals more efficiently, even in weak lift. This translates into less energy spent searching and more time climbing. The wing communicates air movements with clarity, enabling pilots to fine-tune their turns for maximum lift retention.
Glide Ratio – Turning Height Into Distance
The hallmark of cross-country success is the ability to stretch every meter of altitude into horizontal distance. With a superior glide ratio, the Alpina 4 GT Ozone allows pilots to cruise between thermals with minimal loss of height. The reduction in line drag—paired with optimized internal pressure distribution—ensures you maintain speed and efficiency in still air and against light headwinds.
Speed System – Power With Stability
A high-performance speed system is only valuable if it’s usable in real-world conditions. On the Alpina 4 GT Ozone, you can engage the speed bar confidently, even in active air. The Shark Nose profile resists deformations at higher speeds, while the wing’s stability geometry in the GT harness keeps roll and pitch movements under control. This lets pilots cover ground rapidly during transitions without feeling on edge.
Handling Precision – Control Without Fatigue
One of the biggest strengths of the Alpina 4 GT Ozone is its handling feedback. The brakes feel light yet connected, offering immediate input response without demanding constant physical effort. Whether you’re carving in strong thermals or making micro-adjustments on glide, the wing responds fluidly. This means less fatigue over long flights—a critical advantage for pilots aiming to maximize their XC hours.
Performance in Real Conditions – Not Just Theory
Performance figures and design specs mean little unless they translate into real-world advantages. The Alpina 4 GT Ozone was tested extensively in varied conditions—from alpine thermals to coastal soaring—to ensure that it excels not only in perfect weather but also in challenging environments. The result is a wing that maintains its composure through turbulence, transitions smoothly between lift and glide, and recovers predictably from unexpected collapses.
Safety During Flight – Confidence at Every Altitude
For Ozone, safety isn’t an afterthought—it’s built into every fiber of the Alpina 4 GT Ozone. The GT edition delivers the same high-performance capabilities as the standard Alpina 4 while adding features and refinements that help pilots feel secure, even in demanding conditions. Whether you’re gliding above open valleys, threading through mountain passes, or working light thermals at low altitude, this wing communicates clearly, reacts predictably, and supports decisive pilot control.
Predictable Behavior in Active Air
In turbulence, the Alpina 4 GT Ozone remains remarkably composed. Its refined arc and Shark Nose leading edge help it resist unexpected deformations, while internal pressure stability reduces the likelihood of collapses. If a disturbance does occur, the wing’s design ensures smooth, predictable recovery, allowing you to regain full control without panic or overcorrection.
Clear, Honest Feedback
The wing communicates air movements without overwhelming the pilot. You feel enough feedback to make quick, informed decisions, but not so much that your senses are overloaded. This balance is critical for maintaining situational awareness during long flights, especially in changing weather.
Stability Across the Speed Range
Some high-performance wings become twitchy when accelerated—but not the Alpina 4 GT Ozone. Whether flying at trim speed or with the bar pushed, the canopy maintains roll and pitch stability, giving you the freedom to use your speed system with confidence, even in moderately active air.
Forgiving Recovery Characteristics
Every advanced pilot knows that unexpected situations can happen in the sky. That’s why the Alpina 4 GT Ozone was designed to recover cleanly from collapses, stalls, and wingtip deflations. These maneuvers return the wing to stable flight quickly, without violent surges or deep dives, minimizing the need for aggressive pilot input.
Safety Through Comfort
Safety isn’t just about avoiding incidents—it’s also about keeping pilots mentally sharp and physically comfortable. The GT harness system supports your posture, reduces fatigue, and allows you to maintain precise control throughout extended flights. A relaxed pilot is a safer pilot.

Pro Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Alpina 4 GT Ozone
The Alpina 4 GT Ozone is designed to reward skill and decision-making. While its handling is forgiving for its class, adopting a few proven habits will help you unlock its full cross-country potential.
1. Optimize Your Launch Technique
The wing’s lightweight build means it inflates easily, even in light wind. In strong conditions, use a controlled forward launch to prevent overshooting. Keep your hands slightly raised until the canopy stabilizes overhead before applying brake input.
2. Read the Air, Trust the Feedback
This glider offers precise, honest feedback. Subtle pressure changes in the brakes or harness can signal approaching lift or turbulence. Trust those cues—small adjustments often yield the best thermal centering results.
3. Use the Speed Bar Strategically
The Alpina 4 GT Ozone is stable when accelerated, but efficiency comes from smart timing. Apply bar through sink zones or during long transitions between thermals. Release it when searching for lift to maximize climb rate.
4. Manage Fatigue on Long Flights
The GT harness reduces strain, but staying hydrated and making periodic posture adjustments will help you maintain sharp decision-making. Carry an accessible hydration system in the integrated cockpit compartment.
5. Practice Recovery Maneuvers
Even though this wing recovers predictably from collapses and stalls, practicing SIV (Simulation d’Incident en Vol) training will deepen your familiarity with its reactions. The more instinctive your inputs become, the more confident you’ll feel in turbulent air.
6. Choose the Right Size
Flying within the certified weight range is essential for optimal safety and performance. Heavier pilots in the top of the weight range will enjoy more speed and penetration, while lighter pilots will benefit from slower handling and improved climb in weak lift.
7. Maintain Your Gear
Regularly check line lengths, fabric condition, and harness attachment points. Even the best-performing wing requires consistent care to keep delivering peak results. Store it dry and out of direct sunlight when not in use.
Remember: The Alpina 4 GT Ozone isn’t just about flying farther—it’s about flying smarter. Combining skill, awareness, and preparation will turn every flight into a confident, comfortable adventure.

Ozone Alpina 4 GT: INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED – EN C
New features
The Alpina 4 GT is the Alpina 4 but features Ozone’s new colour scheme and a more robust top surface cloth. Dominico 20D32 replaces the mix of Dominico 20D and Skytex 27 for improved durability and robustness which makes it more suitable for rough terrain, with a minimal impact on canopy weight.
The Pilot
The Alpina 4 GT is for intermediate to advanced pilots who fly 70-100 hours per year and have SIV experience. Due to its ease of use and high level of passive safety, it is also suitable for pilots moving up from the category below. Pilots who loved their Alpina 4 and Delta 4 and are happy to continue their experience with a similar technology and overall behaviour will immediately be at home with the Alpina 4 GT.
The Tech
Intuitive and efficient Angle of Attack control, a proven airfoil design, and optimised internal structure make the Alpina 4 GT an XC glide machine. The super strong structure reduces aerodynamic losses, even in aggressive turbulence the profile remains strong, retaining its shape and efficiency without performance loss from chordwise deformation.
The Ozone Active Control Risers, allow full AoA control throughout the speed range without deforming the camber of the profile. The ACR system acts on B & C lines giving close-to-2-liner control with the reassurance of a 3-liner design.
Certification
The Alpina 4 GT is certified EN-C in all sizes.
In Flight
The Alpina 4 GT is up to 900g lighter than the Delta 5. The reduction in sail weight delivers the handling and performance benefits that come with lower inertia — crisper and more agile feel, more sensitivity in the climb and better collapse behaviour. The reduced weight also makes it nicer to carry.
The Alpina 4 GT retains the low sink rate of the Alpina/Delta 4 for very good thermalling efficiency and cuts through the air gaining altitude in the gusts much like a competition wing. The glide performance throughout the speedrange is the best that can be expected in the category.
The forgiving collapse behaviour is thanks to a relatively low aspect ratio, complex internal structure and line architecture and by optimised wing twist. The Alpina 4 GT has a well proven track record as a safe forgiving wing with little tendency to shoot or rotate after side collapse and good frontal behaviour.
Thanks to the Ozone Shark Nose profile, the wing is resistant to spin and stall, and can be flown safely at low speed making top landings, or landings in tight spots, simple for a wing of this class.
The brakes are linear — precise in the first part of the range and effective in the second. It is easy to adjust the angle of bank and to place the wing exactly where you want in the core. Strong chord structure and high sail cohesion make for highly coordinated roll/yaw and an agile, exciting feel.
The GT Range
GT stands for Gran Turismo or Grand Tourer, and is our semi-light glider range, providing the in-flight benefits of a lower canopy weight and the robustness close to a standard weight wing with better longevity than dedicated light wings. The GT range is an expression of our true-performance promise; light, agile and safe with class leading performance in the most demanding conditions.Alpina 4 GT Ozone review
Designer notes
David Dagault’s XC Mag 257 interview about the Ozone EN-C glider range.
Some of the SIV instructors are kind of reluctant to use 2-liners. So we still want to offer a three-liner. So we will continue with the Alpina 4, with some renewed materials, a kind of hybrid between the Delta and the Alpina, and it will be called the Alpina 4 GT. It will be a 2.5 liner Delta 4 with a hybrid construction.
The development of a two-line Delta 5 to sit alongside the Photon clearly demonstrates that the EN-C category is now also delineated into ‘low-C’ and ‘high-C’. Like the EN-B category, which encompasses wings that range from docile first wings (‘low-B’) to lively XC gliders (‘high-B’), pilots can no longer assume a certain characteristic from the broad brush of the EN letter.
The Photon has its place as our high EN-C in the range, for sure, for competition and demanding XC pilots, but the Delta 5 is a step up in performance from the Delta 4, it’s close to the Photon to be honest. The difference is in top speed. The Delta 5 is slightly slower than the Photon at full bar, but speed is for competition more than anything.
