  • Optional: ‘Student Riser’ – 20mm Nylon webbing

Anyone who prefers less skinny risers, can alternatively order Nova renowned Student Risers. These are also found on, for example, their EN A PRION 5 and therefore are commonly used in flying schools. They feature wider webbing (20 mm instead of 12 mm) which make sorting them easier when ground handling and preparing for launch and they have the same markings as the regular AONIC risers. The Student Risers are always delivered with Adjustable Handles. These are innovative brake handles that can be individually adjusted to the pilot’s hands and thus facilitate correct gripping. This design was created in co-operation with the DHV. The Adjustable Handles are also available separately or in combination with the standard risers of the AONIC Light.

AONIC Light – “A” High-Light

Versatile companion.

A manoeuvrable and safe recreational wing, the AONIC Light impresses with its wide variety of uses. The AONIC Light is the perfect introduction to paragliding for anyone who would like a little agility right from the start. Advanced pilots benefit from the performance potential of the high-end EN A glider, which can even keep up with higher-rated gliders in cross-country flying. Pilots who switch from a higher class to the AONIC Light will be pleasantly surprised by its performance and handling.

EN A record.

When they hear the words EN A, most pilots think of cumbersome training gliders with no cross-country potential. The AONIC Light is different – Swiss pilot Toni Brügger first flew an FAI triangle of 214 km in Ticino with the AONIC in March 2022 – a world record for EN A gliders! On the 10th of May 2022, he followed this up with 247.47 km from Riederalp and beat his own record. Toni says: “The AONIC is really nice when flying distance. It is very stable, with intuitive handling and it climbs really well. Especially in strong and turbulent conditions, it is a safe and effective cross-country glider that even a more experienced pilot will enjoy.”

Light in the air.

The technically sophisticated all-rounder with 49 cells and an aspect ratio of 5.17 is wonderfully easy to fly and convinces with smart lightweight design. Thanks to the high quality of the lightweight cloth, you don’t have to worry about the durability of your wing. The weight of only 3.4 kg (size XXS) makes it easier to climb mountains and improves take off and extreme flight behaviour. During inflation, the canopy rises reliably and the glider does not tend to overshoot. Due to its reduced mass, the wing does not tend to overshoot after a collapse. The high level of safety and the small pack size also make the AONIC Light the ideal companion when traveling.

Uncomplicated flying fun.

The minimalist lineset design not only reduces drag in flight, but also makes it easier to sort the lines before launch. Relaxed pre-flight preparation is also made possible by the sheathed, colour-coded lines and the clear 12 mm wide Kevlar-reinforced risers. In the air, the AONIC Light lives up to its designation as a high-end EN A paraglider: agility, performance and high passive safety ensure a high fun factor. Ball-bearing speed-bar pulleys on the riser reduce the operating forces and underline the XC suitability of the AONIC Light.

Maintain the overview.

For maximum manageability, the risers have a series of markings: to avoid attaching the harness incorrectly, the left and right risers are colour-coded, which is continued on the carabiners and main attachment points of Nova harnesses. For ease during pre-flight preparations, they follow the PMA recommended colour scheme for riser and line colours. To avoid confusion when initiating descent manoeuvres, the respective risers are labelled “Ears” and “B-Stall”.Nova Beginner Paraglider

Weight comparison AONIC vs. AONIC Light

Pilot target group

The AONIC Light (EN/LTF A) offers maximum speed, maneuverability and glide performance within the A class – without neglecting the high safety requirements of a paraglider suitable for instruction. In the context of instruction, the AONIC Light is suitable for student pilots with a good feel for the glider. For training, Nova recommend flying the AONIC Light in the middle of the weight range and experienced pilots can also take advantage of the upper part of the weight range.

Nova AONIC Light Paraglider Features

Light, durable and suitable for everyday use. Developed in line with the motto “as light as possible, and as solid as necessary”, Nova rely on a smart design and choice of materials. Where possible, they use lightweight fabric, with sturdier cloth in the areas of heavier wear. This way Nova can guarantee long durability, high performance and easy handling with little weight. The paragliders are light, fully usable for everyday flying AND durable.

Comfort on the ground.

All NOVA paragliders are made to be easy to use. For packing you can use a concertina bag, but it is not essential. Their extensive experience with rods has taught them that the packing method has little influence on the durability of the wing. Bent rods quickly spring back into their original shape.Nova Beginner Paraglider

Less knots, less wind resistance.

This wing has two line galleries: main lines and gallery lines, but there is no middle gallery. This means only very few line elements and as a result, they are very simple to sort.Nova Beginner Paraglider

Shaped in top form.

n 3D-shaping, a seam on the upper surface extends over the entire span and reduces the amount of folds caused by the curvature over two axes. Two axes, because the sail cloth has to align to the profile form and the ballooning also determines a radius which the cloth also has to follow.

Under pressure

NOVA Air Scoop is an optimised air intake, which increases the internal wing pressure. NOVA’s Air Scoop principle is similar to the ram-air inlet duct on a sports car: increased airflow produces higher pressure. Higher internal pressure in a paraglider means improved performance through increased structural stability and collapse resistance.

More compact

The aspect ratio of a glider is not the only factor in passive safety, but still a very important one. A high aspect ratio favours cravats after asymmetric collapses, generally shortens brake travel and normally makes wings more difficult to fly. Nova’s analytical tools permit them to build performance wings even with a low or moderate aspect ratio.

FAQ

What should I do or avoid doing in order to maximise the durability of my wing

  • Avoid UV rays: minimise its exposure to the sun!
  • Store the wing open or loosely folded, dry, in a ventilated dark place.
  • Store the wing loosely folded, in a dry, dark place.
  • Never store a damp wing.
  • Don’t drag the wing across the ground (especially the leading edge and rods).
  • Avoid sand and dust.
  • Never clean it with a hard brush or detergents.
  • If it is dirty, use a soft sponge and lots of water.
  • Allow a damp or wet glider to dry completely before storing.
  • Keep the wing away from acids and acid vapours (car battery)

How should I pack my wing?

Simplicity is our motto. Our wings can be packed using a concertina bag, but it is not essential. You can fold this wing using your preferred method and pack it in our stuff sack. Be careful not to bend the leading edge rods unnecessarily. This is particularly true if the wing is to be stored for longer periods or if it is packed tightly.Nova Beginner Paraglider

What is the difference to the DOUBLESKIN?

The DOUBLESKIN is a particularly lightweight paraglider with EN/LTF A (partly EN B in the extended weight range), which we do not recommend for instruction or frequent ground handling due to the more sensitive material. It is aimed at pilots who want a glider specifically for hike & fly.lightweight EN-A

What is the difference to the PRION 5?

The PRION 5 is a classic EN A wing used for instruction, designed to be as easy to control as possible while offering maximum security. The design, materials and trim of the AONIC have enabled it to react more directly to control inputs and to glide even better. It is also EN/LTF A certified, but requires slightly more pilot skill. Many pilots would therefore refer to the AONIC as a “high-end” EN A.

When should I send my wing for its first Nova AONIC Light Paraglider Trim Tuning (NTT)?

During the initial flights the lines are first subjected to load. This load induces a small degree of stretching and shrinking. These are not associated with the line manufacturers or the quality of workmanship – in the factory all NOVA paragliders are trimmed and pre-stretched to within a very low tolerance. To adjust this stretching or shrinking, we recommend that the wing is taken for NTT (NOVA Trim Tuning) after ten to twenty flights – after one year at the very latest. Generally, the line lengths remain constant after the first ten to twenty hours. To make full use of the NTT, NOVA encourages all pilots to have their wing checked after ten to twenty flying hours.lightweight EN-A

What is the difference to the AONIC?

The AONIC Light weighs less and has a reduced packing volume. Like all lightweight models of NOVA wings (except the radical BANTAM, DOUBLESKIN and XENON) the AONIC Light distinguishes itself with a “smart lightweight design”. This means that the pilot has practically no disadvantages in handling or durability. And the cloths are chosen so that these wings are 100 percent suitable for everyday use. The demands on the pilot remain the same, whether flying the AONIC or the AONIC Light.

What is the difference to the IBEX?

The IBEX is a good-natured EN A glider with a smart lightweight design that is also perfect for training. It is lighter, with less performance than the AONIC Light.
